Coach Thompson Needs Help
A 'Go Fund Me' appeal for long-time Eugene distance coach
Peter Thompson
.
Peter Thompson is the former IAAF/WA global head of endurance coaching and first came to Eugene 50 years ago from the UK. He has been a prolific endurance coach in the Eugene area from 1973 to 1989, returning in 2011 to today. From 1990 to 2010 he was employed by the IAAF for a 20-year period. In 1982, Peter was one of 8 founding members of the USATF (TAC/USA) Coaches Education. He is a former USATF Oregon, Chair of Open Athletics and Board Member and is a regular instructor at USATF Level 1 coaches’ courses in Oregon and Washington.
A Go Fund Me appeal has been established since Peter has not been able to work due to a recent month-long hospitalization and is facing long-needed
hip replacement surgery. He is unable to coach or teach due to his limited mobility caused by his hip. Peter has no other source of income and lost his home in Eugene in November, while hospitalized.
Please consider contributing to his
GoFundMe
, if you are able and help to spread the word, so that we can help Peter get back on his feet, coaching and teaching again. Peter has given so much to the sport of Track and Field, particularly in Oregon. It is time to give back and help him.
